Benefits of Hot/Heated Yoga

When you step into our infrared heated Prana studio, you will immediately notice the therapeutic heat.  It directly permeates the body, alleviating aches, increasing circulation, and offers a whole range of health benefits. We invite you to experience the many health benefits that infrared heat has to offer when you practice at Yoga Pointe.

Physical Benefits of Hot Yoga

Increased Flexibility - Because Infrared heat is directly warming the muscles, it opens them up allowing for a greater range of motion. A study at Auburn University compared athletes stretching in a training room to how far they were able to stretch in an infrared sauna. Researchers concluded participants were able to stretch as much as three times their normal amount in the infrared environment. This will allow yoga students to open up, melt deep into the poses and gain confidence in their practice while being mindful.

Increased Circulation - Infrared heat has been shown to stimulate blood flow by opening up the body’s capillaries. This has an incredible affect on the body and offers a variety of benefits. It can help lower blood pressure, oxygenate the organs and rid the body of toxins.

Detoxification - Simply put, infrared heat will make you sweat, which is a good thing because it is your body’s natural way of flushing toxins. As your body absorbs infrared heat, water molecules begin to vibrate, which causes them to wring out impurities from the cells and expel them into the blood. These impurities will then be released from your body as you sweat, creating a deep, detoxifying cleanse on the cellular level.

Metabolism Booster - The human body has an impressive temperature regulation system. It wants to stay at a consistent  temperature and its willing to work very hard to ensure that this happens. As the body heats up, its natural cooling systems kick in, which takes energy and burns calories. Infrared heat also increases metabolism between the blood and tissue, which also burns calories.

Pain Relief - Infrared heat directly penetrates tissue, muscles and joints, allowing them to heal and regenerate. This is  accomplished through a combination of the previously mentioned increased circulation, oxygenation and detoxification. Infrared radiation is incredibly useful for pain relief for both minor injuries and chronic ailments.

Mental & Emotional Benefits of Hot Yoga

Decreases Your Stress - The mental/emotional experience of hot yoga is like no other yoga.  Sometimes, emotional energy gets stuck and stagnates in your joints, organs, tissues, and other parts of your body. As it intensifies, it will eventually cause a great deal of stress. By doing hot yoga, certain movements will help release such energy, while making you feel good at the same time.

Calms Your Anxiety - It can be easy for you to become overwhelmed and anxious most of the time, especially when you have a busy daily schedule. As you may already know, anxiety and stress go hand in hand. In fact, both of these conditions are the main causes of that feeling of imbalance you experience from time to time. With regular hot yoga practice, you will be able to gradually eliminate anxiety and stress, giving you back that state of physical and mental balance. As a result, you can maintain a better and stable mood.

Focuses Your Mind - With our schedules being more packed than every before, our mind is split in multiple directions at any given moment, making it extremely challenging to maintain focus and clarity.  Regular hot yoga practice helps the mind to become focused and to 'melt' away all of the internal distractions.

Reduces Depression symptoms - Depression symptoms are not limited to the mind but are also buried in the body.  The physical aspects of yoga combined with the practice of focused attention, breathing exercises, and deep relaxation reduce symptoms of depression holistically.  Also, recent studies found that practicing in a group setting is more beneficial to reducing depression than practicing alone at home.
